Grumpy Day Back after Bank Holiday Monday (10st 9 1/2 + 9 units)

Breakfast: porridge with honey.

Analysis: Stop putting honey in the porridge.

Analysis 2: At weekends I should have 3 distinct meals and one snack – not lots of mini noms. This is essential if I ever want to be 10st2.

Lunch: About 4oz of bbq’d brisket.

Dinner: Brisket and coleslaw sandwich.

Fruit: Apple.

Drink: Perrier plus Belvoir lemongrass cordial.

Snack: Tiny bit of the remaining fudge cake.

Best moment of the day: finding out that sprouts are Röschen in German and that chipmunks and squirrels are related (part of a group called Sciuridae along with marmots and prairie dogs).

German word of the day: die Lachsalven – guffaws. Urig = quaint.


Chilli’s (Monday, 9 units)

Exercise: 40 minutes run/walk.

Orange juice.

Scrambled egg and bacon roll.


Wasabi peas.



About 9 units of white wine.

Trip to Chilli’s in Newbury. Lush aubergine curry and fabulous naan bread. Some of everyone else’s.

Analysis 1: Need an entire fruit bowl of grapes when have friends over.

Analysis 2: Mantra: “I’m going to be 10st2 by 12th September!”

Best moment of the day: the high after my first glass of white wine.

German word of the day: die Dosennahrung (tinned food) – used to describe poor quality nosh on TripAdvisor. Eichhörnchen is squirrel and Streifenhörnchen is chipmunk.

Sea Bass at The Bell at Boxford. (Sunday, 51.3 units)

Best moment of the day: Sea Bass at The Bell at Boxford.

Alcohol: About 9 units of white wine.

Exercise: about 40 minute walk.

German word of the day: Röschen (sprout or little rose).

Salt chocolate nom.

Fudge cake with clotted cream.

Brisket bbq’d for 7 hours in a roll with homemade coleslaw.

Lots of other tasty noms.

Analysis 1: succeeded in stopping nomming by cleaning my teeth with the best electric toothbrush ever. Teeth felt so sparkly afterwards, I didn’t want to spoil it with fresh noms.

Analysis 2: Need more grapes and cherry tomatoes on hand when there’s a lot of snacks about.

Meeting new kitten (Saturday, 10st6, 42.3 units)

Best moment of the day: meeting new kitten. He’s black, very tiny and friendly. Was nice dropping him off and seeing how much his new family like him.

German word of the day: Salzgebäck (savoury biscuits)


Lovely bacon and brie baguette at The Plough near Chippenham. 2 non-alcoholic ginger beers.

Cup of coffee.

Jerk chicken. Lots of other noms.

About 15 units of white wine.

Exercise: About 30 minute run on the Common.

Analysis: when trying to choose between a run and more sleep, choose a run at weekends as it makes me feel healthy and virtuous.

Analysis 2: need to go back to just one snack per day to make 10st2 by 12th Sept.

New kitten (Friday, 10st 7, 27.3 units.)

Best moment of the day: my colleague is going to get a kitten from JF!

Breakfast: porridge with honey.

Snacks: Caramelized nuts. Mini fig roll.

Lunch: About 4oz tongue with a tomato.

Alcohol: 175 ml Rosé (Rioja). 2.3 units.

Dinner: Pork chop baguette.

Drinks: Black coffee. Cappuccino.

Fruit: Half an apple.

Snacks: Wasabi peas (helped me not drink in the evening).

Exercise: Walked to the pub at lunch time and back.

Analysis: Need to do squat thrusts in the toilet.

Analysis 2: Need to look up where Park Run starts tomorrow morning.

Toothbrush works (10st8, 25 units)

Best moment of the day: my beautiful new electric toothbrush is not broken! My ancient shaver adapter needed a new fuse.

German word of the day: Kerbel  = chervil.

Snack: Small fig rolls.

Drinks: Coffee.

Dinner: Pork chops in a baguette with salad.

Alcohol: Just over a glass of lush Riesling wine (3.5 units).

Analysis: Riesling is a good wine to drink as has a low ABV.

Analysis 2: need to put salt in my porridge instead of honey.

No more just going through the motions (Wednesday, 10st7 1/2, units 21.6)

Analysis: I haven’t been committed to getting to 10st2 for a while. I need to achieve one major thing in life at a time and my current thing is to get to goal weight. I shouldn’t feel guilty about having such a frivolous aim. My mantra is “I’m going to be 10st2 before my holiday in September”.

Analysis 2: I need to find out where Park Run starts on Saturday morning.

Best moments:

Monday: drinking champers, eating steak in mushroom sauce and watching the end of Orange is the New Black.

Tuesday: successfully giving blood (got turned away on Monday as blood came out too slowly).

Wednesday: the thought of cider in Nando’s tonight 🙂

Exercise: walking to the library. Walked to Nando’s and back.

Alcohol: 2 Brahms beers at Nando’s (2.8 units). Pint of Aspell’s (3.1units). Bottle of Grolsch (1.7). Total:  7.6 units.

Snack: Bite of Special K bar.
