Breakfast: Porridge with salt and honey. Need to cut down on sweet things as have a sore tooth.

Lunch: Pitta bread with salad and feta.

Snack: Chocolate biscuit. Tunnock’s Tea Cake.

Drinks: Black coffee. Tea.

I’m deliberately failing the La Perla challenge as I don’t want to spend £250 on a lingerie set. Instead I’m going to buy myself a more sensibly priced Rigby and Peller set tomorrow.

Next month’s challenge is to read or quote If by Rudyard Kipling before eating something bad for me.

  • Give £35 to MSF for mostly having very nearly two drinks

Lunch: Moussaka with pitta.

Snack: Half a white chocolate cookie (very restrained). Some baklava from yesterday. Tunnock’s Tea Cake.

Dinner: Mackerel on buttered toast with remains from Lebanese night.

Fruit: Pear.

Drinks: Black coffee. Tea?

Drinking Challenge: If I go back to only drinking half a bottle four times per week except for special occasions, I’ll have succeeded at this challenge and give £35 to MSF on 1st Feb.

La Perla Challenge: This is going to become the Rigby and Peller challenge as you can get a matching set for less than £250! I’m ordering something from them on 1st Feb. Maybe this one.

Alcohol: Under half a bottle of white wine.


Saffron Tea

Saffron tea is calming so I made some with this recipe:

  • cinnamon stick
  • cloves
  • saffron strands
  • milk
  • rooibos tea bag
  • cardonom
  • tumeric
  • honey

Lunch: Rotisserie chicken at The Two Watermills with quinoa salad and kale coleslaw. (Very tasty.)

Snacks: Baklava from last night.

Dinner: Leftovers from cooking competition.

Alcohol: Glass of wine at lunchtime and over half a bottle of wine in the evening. Need to become a member of the inebriati again!

Lebanese Cooking Competition

Breakfast: Porridge with honey and possibly blueberries.

Wine-tasting: Went to Berry Bros in Basingstoke and tried a lush champagne, white wines and some red.

Lunch at Nelson’s: Cheese and mushroom omelette with chips and salad. Oreo milkshake to try to make me feel less inebriated from the tasting.

Dinner: food from cooking competition.


I won the prize with my moussaka!


Alcohol: Definitely over 2 drinks, but fine as a special occasion!


Breakfast: Porridge with full-fat milk with blueberries and honey.

Lunch: Zinger rice box from KFC.

Drinks: Black coffee. Apple juice.

Snack: Vanilla yoghurt. Chocolate ginger biscuit (heavenly).

Dinner: Salad with mackerel and feta and homemade vinaigrette.

La Perla – it looks like I’m going to achieve the challenge, but am having second thoughts as it’s so expensive. I could see a show and have a  night in London for the same money…


Breakfast: Porridge with almond milk with blueberries and honey.

Lunch: Lebanese moussaka plus pitta (really nice – am so chuffed with myself. Am looking forward to making it again on Saturday.)

Snack: Yoghurt with blueberries. 2 chocolate ginger biscuits. Mini mint. Vanilla yoghurt.

Fruit: Grapes. Grapefruit sprinkled with sugar.

Drinks: Tea. Black coffee.

Dinner: 2 boiled eggs with 2 slices of buttered toast.

Alcohol: Half a bottle of white wine.

Snacks: Pringles, pistachios, monkey nuts, mixed nuts.

Possible La Perla choice: Windflower. Might complete the set next month as really expensive.

Lebanese Moussaka

Breakfast: Porridge with almond milk, dates and honey.

Lunch: Fish with mayo dip and lots of salad. (Swapped my sumac chicken for a colleague’s fish as he didn’t like the fish he’d bought.)

Drinks: Tea. Black coffee. Apple juice.

Fruit: Grapes. Apple.

Dinner: Made this recipe of Lebanese Moussaka. B says it’s the best thing I’ve made.

Evening drink: Hot chocolate.
